Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that January is now over and Mid-Term is fast approaching. At the moment in School, we are beginning to prepare the children for both our “Service Of Light & Commitment” as well as “Confirmation” itself.
Dates For Diary:
Fit For Life: February 9th, March 1st, 15th and 29th.
Lasco Maths Challenge (in School): February 3rd.
Parental Interviews for Transfer Procedure: February 7th & 8th and 9th
Bee Safe P7 Programme in St. Swithin’s Hall: February 7th ( afternoon )
W5 Maths Challenge: February 8th, a group of P.7’s to attend.
Mid-term break- off Monday 13th - Friday 17th February.
Service of Light & Commitment – Tuesday 21st February – 7.30pm.
It would be nice if all children could bring their Baptismal candles for the Service of Light. Small candles, however, will be available in the chapel on the night itself.
Confirmation 2012- Sunday 18th March – 3.00pm.
Curriculum Content for February:
Numeracy – Focus - revise Time 12 & 24 hr clock & timetables. Revise Measure – scale, area, perimeter & volume. General revision of all 5 aspects of P7 Mathematics in preparation for End Of Key stage 2 Assessment. More focus on Oral Mental Maths, listening skills in Maths as well as logical thinking in our working out. Practice of 24 Game to improve mental agility in Mathematics. W5 Maths Day. LASCO maths challenge.
Language and Literacy – Reading – group, class, shared, paired and individual reading; please encourage your child to read for 20-30 minutes each night. Continue spelling workbooks. Proof-reading and editing to continue. Reading for Comprehension programme ongoing. Class novel – “The Wildflower Girl” – leads us into “Ireland in the Famine Years.” Focus on Creative Writing and revision of skills to raise standards in P.7.
The World Around Us - Continue with Life in Victorian Times
Religion – Alive – O 7 programme; Preparation for “Service of Light & Commitment” and “Confirmation.” 10 commandments, Fruits & Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Research on Life of chosen Saint for Confirmation. Mysteries of Light. Prayers to the Holy Spirit. Working through our Confirmation booklet and linking to other Sacraments. Preparation for Lent. Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday.
P.D.M.U Growing and Changing in preparation for Confirmation. Sense of responsibility. Care of others in their own and the wider community. Commitment Pledge. BEE SAFE health & safety Day.
P.E. Fit for Life P7 Programme begins. GAA healthy lifestyles booklet.
The Arts Victorian Artefacts in charcoal. Victorian cross stitch patterns. Portraits of Famous Victorians. Music & song for Confirmation services. Ongoing Class assemblies.
