Dear Parents,
                      Can you believe that we are now in the last month of your child’s primary school career? The month of June promises to be very busy, with lots of activities going on. Please ensure that your child remains focused, as we still have lots of work to do. There will be lots of opportunities for your child to take part in sporting activities, so please ensure that your child brings appropriate gear including: change of clothing, water, sunscreen and footwear.

School Trip – Lisburn Omniplex- Monday 14th June
Key Stage 2 Sports Day, Meadowbank, Thursday 17th June
End of School Year – Wednesday 30th June, 11.00am
End of Year Mass Thursday 24th June, 11.00am

Curriculum Content for June


Numeracy
– Revision of all aspects of Numeracy in preparation for transfer to new schools in September. Mental Arithmetic Friday tests ongoing. A 24-game tournament will be held in school assembly hall for all P.7 children. Practice will be ongoing in class.

Literacy -
Children will be very involved in compiling their Records of Achievement. This will involve recalling memories of their primary school career and writing it in journal form. They also will be writing about their interests and achievements both within and outside of school. Newspaper Reporting skills ongoing with Belfast Telegraph/World Cup. Children will be starting a new class novel entitled “Fields of Home”. This is the final book in the trilogy by Marita Conlon-McKenna. We will have a Show and Tell based on the powerpoint presentations which children have been working on recently.

The World Around Us –
Children are working on The World Cup project, in conjunction with the Belfast Telegraph. They will be researching countries, players and teams involved in the competition and completing activities based  on this. Heartstart programme will be ongoing to sharpen the children’s life-saving skills.

Religion
–Continuation of Alive-O programme and preparation for End of Year Mass. Children will receive their Confirmation pledge cards and if they wish to join the Pioneers they can do so at a special Mass, organised by the Parish. They will also be presented with their Confirmation certificates and Records of Achievement before the end of June.

PDMU –
Transition/Moving-On programme is being delivered to all P.7 children in preparation for transfer to their new school in September. Cycling Proficency lessons are ongoing and both theory and practical tests will take place this month.

PE –
Practice for Sports Day, outdoors, weather permitting. Other Gaelic, Camogie and soccer events ongoing.

The Arts –
Children will be practising songs for End of Year Mass.
Summer pictures, using a variety of medium. Class Assemblies ongoing until the end of June.
