March  Newsletter – Primary 7

Dear Parents,
                       We hope everyone enjoyed their mid-term break and are feeling full of enthusiasm for the remainder of the term. We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation for the great turn-out at the Service of Light and Commitment. It was a lovely ceremony and a great preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Dates for Diary:
Book Fair – Wed 3rd-Tues.9th March
Bun Friday – Buns can be bought each Friday during Lent; proceeds go to Trocaire. Thank you to all children who have brought/will be bringing in buns.
Confirmation – Sunday 14th March at 3pm. – more details later.
Photographer will be coming into the school on Monday 15th March to take photographs of Confirmants in their Confirmation outfits.
Green Day – 16th March; children come to school dressed in green attire to celebrate St.Patrick’s Day.
School will close for children on 17th & 18th March.
Easter Holidays begin Thursday April 1st ( school closes at 11am) and school re-opens Monday 12th April.

Curriculum Content for March:
Numeracy: Problem – solving using the four rules of number and algebra, including brackets. Logical thinking in preparation for End of Key Stage 2 Assessment. Practise 24-game to improve mental agility in maths.
Language and Literacy: Reading – group, class, shared, paired and individual reading. Please encourage your child to read for 20-30minutes each night. Continue Spelling Workbooks. Focus on Comprehension skills and Creative Writing in preparation for End of Key Stage 2 Assessment.
The World Around Us: Continuation of Ireland in the Famine Years and Eco-Schools project work.
Religion: Alive-O 7 Programme and preparation for confirmation, including symbolism, Baptismal Promises and the Rite of Confirmation; continue working through Confirmation booklet and link with other Sacraments.
PDMU:Taking on more responsibility in P.7. Confirmation pledge and No-Smoking Day activities for a healthy future
P.E. Games skills ongoing, outside weather permitting.
The Arts: Spring pictures, Posters advertising Friday Bun Sales (Trocaire),
St. Patrick’s Day Activities including Art, Song, Dance and Music. Singing and music for Confirmation ongoing.
