Literacy – continued work on comprehension, group novels and class novels. Researching a chosen city (using ICT and travel brochures) and producing an info-board to communicate facts/ information, presenting of information board to the class. (Cardboard backing for display boards needed please).
Reading and research on the Titanic. Grammar points being addressed are tenses (past, present and future), silent letters and compound words
Numeracy – Continuation of decimal fractions – hundredths –linking to vulgar fractions – use of 4 rules. Algebra –use of Cuisenaire rods to establish an agreed code – use of 4 rules with unknown letters. Function machines – to solve for function, input, output – create function machines to solve using 1/2 functions. (Medium sized cardboard boxes needed please eg shoebox, cereal box)
World Around Us – Beginning topic of the Titanic centenary. KWFL grid to establish what they know and what they want to find out. Exploring events through interactive recordings/photos/newspaper/footage. Use of materials from www.nmni.com/Titanic.
P.D.M.U. – recognising that people at times have differing viewpoints and presenting research that may or may not support an agreed viewpoint held by the class.
Continuation of the dangers associated with Alcohol and Drugs.
Religion – St. Brigid’s Day (February 1st). Reflecting on the whole Catholic church and its structure, highlighting the importance of everyone who belongs to our faith and their place within it. Lent.
Art: Competition related to the Titanic, organised by the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Service of Light and Commitment – Tues 21st February in The Church of the Assumption at 7.30pm. All P6 choir members to attend.
