Literacy – comprehension work relating to World Around Us topic of Rainforests, designing a T-shirt to promote caring for the rainforests and reflecting issues affecting its existence, business letter-writing/email writing, creating a group powerpoint to inform class on an Olympic sport of their choice.

Numeracy – Decimal fractions (hundredths, hundredths board, decimal strips, use of 4 Rules with decimals). Angles (right-angle testers, names of angles, turning through right-angles/ half right-angles, turning angles on clock face/compass, using protractor to measure/draw angles up to 180 degrees. Negative numbers on a number line/temperature/thermometer, adding and subtracting using negative numbers)

World Around Us – examining the conditions necessary for growth and survival in the rainforest (camouflage activities) and working on how a place affects the animals and plants that live there (classifying according to animal group/ habitat/ diet). Reasons for deforestation and depletion of the world’s rainforests.

Art – activities relating to World Around Us (picture study and replica of Tiger in a Tropical Storm by Henri Rousseau and T-shirt design relating to issues facing the rainforest areas)

PDMU – facts and opinions related to smoking, survey of people’s experiences of and opinions about smoking; making choices of smoking; no smoking day competition (calculations). Effects of alcohol, media’s influence on promotion of alcohol, poster design on alcohol abuse.

Religion – Continuation of Lent. Renewing Lenten Promises.St. Patrick’s Day.
Sacrament of Confirmation – Sunday 14th March @ 3pm in Church of the Assumption, Magherafelt.  All choir members to attend.

Green Day – As part of our school celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day, we are having a ‘Green Day’ when all pupils are encouraged to wear something green. £1 fee and prizes to be won!

A heart-felt thanks is extended to all those who helped the children design and build their Viking Longships.  From listening to the children they found it to be a wonderful experience and such a high standard was reached this year!!
