Dear Parents,
As June is usually a hot month please ensure that your child brings the following items to school:  water bottle, suncream, and sunhat.
As we are also practising for Sports Day (taking place on Thursday 17th June at Meadowbank Arena) please check that your child wears or brings trainers with him/her to school each day.
Curriculum Content
Numeracy – Place value Th. H. T. U.  – addition and subtraction of four digit numbers including associated Problem solving tasks. Pupils will be exploring Symmetry, Compass Points, Angles and Grid References. Revision and consolidation of all topics covered using mathematical games.
Language and Literacy – Continue work on all aspects of reading in Year 5.  Spelling programme ongoing.  Comprehension.  Emphasis on key ideas/key words in text.  Discussion and analysis of a wide variety of poems including rhyme and alliteration.  Class novel – Charlotte’s Web.
The World Around Us – Continue with Ancient Egypt project.  Working in groups of four.  Encourage research on Pyramids, Mummification, Pharaohs and Hieroglyphics (Egyptian Writing).  Avail of Library facilities and internet if possible.                                                                                 
Religion -  The importance of Early Christian Community.  Preparation for end of year Mass.  Responses to the Mass. 
P.D.M.U –  Recognise and value diversity in people’s lives.  Making choices and recognising that choices involve consequences.
P.E –  Outdoor Games and Athletics – preparing for Sports Day.
The Arts – Create an Egyptian home.  Egyptian music and dance.

End of year School Mass on Thursday 24th June at 11a.m. in the Church of the Assumption, Magherafelt. 
School closes on Wednesday 30th June at 11a.m.
