Dear Parents,
The school nurse will visit on Friday 10th February to talk to the children about a Healthy lifestyle. The ‘Do This In Memory of Me’ programme continues on 12th February for all Year Four pupils and their parents in preparation for the Sacraments.
The school will be closed for mid-term break for all pupils from Monday 13th - Friday 17th February.
This is an outline of the areas to be covered in February.

Numeracy
In our mental maths we will continue to develop strategies for multiplying. We will reinforce and use the 10, 5, 2, 3 and 4 times tables.  We will continue multiplication of TU and HTU including problem-solving and using money.
In measure the pupils will continue to use the twelve hour clock. On the analogue clock the five minute intervals past and to the hour will be covered whilst on the digital clock only the five minute intervals past the hour will be covered. Duration of time and time related problems will be studied.

Language and Literacy
In reading our research and activities will conclude the theme of Food/Healthy Eating. This will include shared, guided and independent reading using novels, reading books and reference materials about food/healthy eating as well as using a big book to study authorial techniques.
Writing activities will include creative writing where the children design a menu, write a food poem and factual writing about healthy eating. We cover singular and plural and adding ‘ing’. Spelling is based on the Prim-Ed spelling programme.

 World Around Us
Our Healthy Eating theme will conclude with a food party where the children will identify changes in food during the cooking process. We will also carry out an investigation on how best to keep food fresh. We will look at shopping today and long ago including the establishment of Marks and Spencer’s. Pupils will talk about their experiences of dining out look at sample restaurant menus.

Religious Education
We follow the Alive O 4 programme and this month we cover the story of St Brigid. We begin to look at examples of not showing love in the unit ‘Not Being Bothered’. Children have been given a copy of all the prayers needed for First Penance. Please refer to these each night as it is an important part of their preparation for the Sacrament of First Penance.

P.D.M.U
To finish the Healthy eating theme we will discuss the importance of food in our lives and how we can appreciate what we have and be aware of those less fortunate.
We will begin to talk about ways in which we can show love to others.

The Arts
Pupils will continue their pastel drawings of fruit based on the artist Paul Cezanne’s still–life painting. Children will act out their food scripts using stick puppets in their Activity Based learning.
In Music pupils will be encouraged to choose a well-known nursery rhyme and compose a Healthy eating rhyme deciding on appropriate percussion instruments for accompaniment.

Physical Education
Pupils will continue with the Fundamental Movement Skills programme with Mr Curry. Please ensure your child comes to school in full P.E. uniform on Tuesdays.
