Year Four June Newsletter

Dear Parents,
                      Congratulations to all Year Four children and their families on the wonderful occasion of First Holy Communion on 15th May. Every child made the day special and memorable. Well done!

Some important dates for this month – Thursday 17th Year 4 trip to Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh, Friday 18th KS1 Sports in Meadowbank and end of year Mass on Thursday 24th at 11.00am. School finishes on Wednesday 30th at 11.00am.
During this month we will continue to cover the following areas.

Numeracy

Pupils will work on activities related to money up to £10 including how it can be spent/saved/kept safe, alternative ways to pay and problem solving. We will also revise the four operations in Number.
In Measure the pupils will carry out practical activities in weight and capacity. They will use the units of kg and half kg, litre and half litre.

Language and
Literacy
Continuation of shared, guided and independent reading including follow – up work on the class novel ‘The Worst Child I Ever Had’. Writing activities will include a planning board on our Environment theme, rules for caring for the Environment, a sequencing activity on recycling and a poem on mini-beasts. We also classify fiction/non-fiction titles, look at the use of suffixes and revise basic grammar and punctuation covered this year. Spelling using the Prim-Ed spelling workbook. Continued use of linked script .
 
World Around Us

Mini-beasts topic- Life cycle of the butterfly, observation of the snail and habitats of commonly found mini-beasts. Our Environment – the need for re-cycling, the importance of our Eco-Code and our responsibilities to help improve the World we live in.

Religious Education

The Mass and the parts of the Mass, responses, prayers etc. The spirit of God in Us (Baptism). Saint Gobnait. Time To Go – Alive O!

P.D.M.U

Road safety. Friendships during the year. Care of living things and care of Our Environment. Holiday safety. Care in the sun.

The Arts

Pupils will design and make a mini–beast mask, a clay model and a   ‘Caring for Our Environment’ poster. They will work creatively and add sounds to a variety of mini-beast poems and the song ‘Eeny Meeny Mini-beasts’. They will take part in a hot-seating activity called Mini-beast Guess Who?

Physical Education

Athletics – Preparation for Fun Sports.
P4C will continue after schools P.E with Ronan.
