March Newsletter Year 3

Dear Parents,
Welcome to our March Newsletter. We will take this opportunity to inform you of some key issues for March. Please remember healthy eating days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and encourage children to wear full school uniform. We will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday 16th March. Children are asked to bring in £1 and dress in green.
School closed on Wednesday 17th March and Thursday 18th March for Staff training. School re-opens on Friday 19th March.
Easter holidays – School closes on Holy Thursday 1st April at 11 o’clock and re-opens on Monday 12th April.

Curriculum Content for February
Literacy
This month our Talking and Listening activities are related to our topic of Hot and Cold Climates, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day and Easter. We will continue to provide opportunities for children to participate in shared, guided and independent reading. Please continue to hear your child read aloud each night and encourage them to sound out new words. Children will be given opportunities this month to write for a variety of purposes to include shared writing about Easter, descriptive writing “My Mum” and Letter writing e.g. a postcard from a Hot/Cold place. Please encourage your child to learn their spellings each week using the Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check approach.

Numeracy
In class we will be studying Data Handling. We will interpret information from different diagrams e.g. Venn, Tree, Carroll and Bar graphs. Children will collect information from home for school work. They will discuss and explain their findings and record appropriately. We will introduce fractions - halves and quarters. We will cut and fold different shapes to make wholes. We will study data language for problem solving. We ask you to continue revising number facts each night to assist with daily thinking maths.

World Around Us
In World Around us we will be studying Hot places. We will begin by discussing how our weather and environment affect us and our lifestyle. We will locate Hot places e.g. Rainforests and Deserts on maps and globes. We will then investigate how their climate affects their lifestyle.

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU)
This month we will discuss how we can fulfil our Lenten promises.  We will look at ways we can improve how we live both at home and in school. We will revise playground rules and how to play fairly e.g. what can we do if a game is not played fairly?

P.E.
Please remind your child to wear their P.E. gear on the following days:
P3A Thursdays & Fridays
P3B Tuesdays
P3C Thursdays & Fridays

The Arts
 Children will illustrate stories about St. Patrick and make Mother’s Day cards. Children will create a class collage on The Rainforest to include all the elements that we have learned.
