Dear parents,
This is our curriculum content for the month of March.

Language and Literacy

This month our literacy content will focus on the following topics:- The post office, St. Patrick, Spring and Easter.  We will be writing stories and making a list of Spring words to help create an Acrostic poem.
Questions will be written to ask at the post office and this will be followed by writing a story about our visit.  We will continue to work on blends, keywords and word families.  We ask you to continue to work at home with your child on these areas.

Mathematics and Numeracy

We will be continuing with our topic of complementary addition this month.  Children will be learning the concept practically and then recording it.
5 + ?  = 8
6 + ?  = 7
During our thinking maths we will be revising the days of the week and the months of the year.  We would ask that you continue working with your children on their number stories.
Revision of 1p and 2p coins – putting out the amounts etc will continue.  We will introduce the 5p coin to the children who are ready.  Encourage your child to make amounts up to 10p using 1p’s, 2p’s and 5p’s.

World Around Us.

Our topics this month are Spring and Eggs.  The children will be going on a Spring nature walk to observe changes that have taken place in the last 3 months.  We will be looking at weather changes, using information books and educational D.V.D’s.  This will explain how each season affects our birds, animals and plants. 
Part of our topic on eggs will be experimenting with all the different ways to cook eggs.  If your child has an allergy to eggs or you do not wish them to eat eggs please inform the teacher as soon as possible.

Arts

The children will be creating a Spring scene using fabrics, paper and pastels during A.B.L.
The children will also be involved doing Easter art making eggs etc during this time.

Music

Our music will focus around the theme of  Spring.  We will be composing Spring music.
In drama we will be role playing the optician after our visit.

P.D.M.U

During circle time the children will be encouraged to care for the new life in Spring.  We will be talking about how animals and plants change and grow during the months of March, April and May.
We will continue to talk to the children about Trocaire and caring for others who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Physical Development and Movement

This month our focus will be ball skills and creative dance.

Religion

This month our focus in Alive-O is Spring, St. Patrick and Easter.  We will be learning about our Patron Saint story as we celebrate Irish traditions and cultures.

Important Dates

School will be closed on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th March for the children.
Easter Holidays – School will close on 1st April at 11am.  We will return to school on Monday 12th April.
Tuesday 16th March the children will be celebrating our Irish culture and heritage and they are asked to come to school dressed in green. We ask them to bring £1 for the event.
