Dear Parents
Welcome to our June newsletter, the last one for our school year.
Curriculum content for June is as follows.
Language and Literacy.
During this month we will focus on writing around summer and summer activities eg. school trip, sports day etc.  We can not emphasise enough the importance of still reading with your child and allowing them to read for pleasure through visits to the library and other such activities.  In class our reading activities will involve them reading for meaning and understanding.  During the summer months please remember to keep reading to maintain the standard your child has achieved in primary 2.

Mathematics and Numeracy.
This month we will be revising money, shape and number.  Many of the children are continuing to have difficulty counting 1p, 2p and 5p coins.  We would to stress the importance of letting your child count at home with real money.  Set them little challenges to count loose change and involve them in simple shopping activities.  Continue to reinforce shapes with them as you are out and about and shapes in the home.

World Around Us.
We will be going on a litter walk to observe the litter we find around the school.  We will take these observations back to the classroom where the children will record their findings.  We will talk about the damage that litter can do to our environment.  Summer activities will be ongoing during this month.

The Arts.
In music the children will continue with our Alive-O songs.  They will be getting ready for our end of year school mass and for those who have assembly they will be preparing for this as well.  Summer songs and summer pictures will also form part of their activities during the month of June. 

P.D.M.U.
During the month of June the children during circle time will discuss how to keep safe in the sun and when they are near water especially at the beach. 

P.E.
During this month the children will be getting ready for their fun sports day on the 18th June in Meadow Bank Arena.  All P.E will be outdoors weather permitting.  Please ensure your child is wearing appropriate footwear and sun cream when needed.

Religion.
During this month we will be getting ready for our end of year mass and thanking God for the beauty of Summer.

Important Dates
School Trip – Parkanaur Forest Park on Monday 7th June.
Sports Day – Meadow Bank Arena on 18th June.
School Mass – 24th June, Everyone welcome.

Please Note
School will close for the summer on Wednesday 30th June at 11am.  Thank you for all your co-operation and support throughout the year and we look forward to seeing everyone in September.  Have a lovely holiday and a well deserved break.
