Dear parents,
This is our curriculum content for the month of February.

Language and Literacy
This month our literacy content will focus on the topic of owls.
We will be introducing this topic with a visit from Mike from ‘The world of owls’ on February 8th.
The children will be reading information books on owls to help them with their story writing, cut and stick activities and cloze procedure. 
Work will continue on phonics and sounds as this helps to build up your child’s sight vocabulary – thus making them a more confident and independent reader and writer.

Mathematics and Numeracy
Our topics this month are ordinal numbers, time and addition consolidation.
We will continue to work on number bonds, doubles and near doubles in school.
We would ask you to continue working with your child on their mental maths at home.
In school the children are familiar with www.topmarks.co.uk website .
This is a very useful website for Numeracy and Literacy games to enhance your child’s learning.

World Around Us
Our topic this month is owls.  We will begin this topic with a visit from Mike at ‘World of Owls’.  We will be studying the owl and comparing its lifestyle to that of the penguins.   Encourage your child to select books on this topic when visiting the library.

The Arts
In art the children will be creating pictures of owls using a variety of media.
We will be using instruments to compose and perform owl music.
In Drama during ABL the children will be performing the ‘Owl Babies’ story using the puppet theatre.

P.D.M.U
During the month of February the children will be exploring the similarities and differences between themselves and others.  In circle time we will be talking about showing respect for others and their belongings.

P.E
During this month we will continue to focus on Gymnastics with the help of simple apparatus the children will be shown how to jump and land safely and with confidence.

R.E
Our topic this month is special things and special places.  Encourage your child to talk to you about their favourite times within the school day and at home. We will be visiting the church as part of this topic. On Tuesday 28th February The Religious Advisors will visit our school.

Important Dates

School will be closed from Monday 13th February to 17th February inclusive.

Mike from “World of Owls” will visit Primary 2 on  Wednesday 8th February.
The cost per child will be £1.75. This is to cover travel expenses and the upkeep of the animals.
