CURRICULUM INFORMATION EVENING

Dear Parents

As you will all be aware, we are in the midst of an ever changing educational climate. Part of our efforts to keep up to date with this changing climate includes trying to keep you as informed as possible about educational changes and developments.

With this in mind, we will be holding a Curriculum Information Evening on Tuesday 22nd November for parents of all children from P1 - P7. The idea behind the evening is to give you the opportunity to hear the classroom teachers explain exactly how they will develop your children’s skills, capabilities and thinking throughout the school. They will outline to you just how this will happen within the context of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

The evening is not intended as a series of individual interviews, but rather it is designed to give everyone an overview of the curriculum and it’s out workings for the year.(Interviews will take place later in the school year as usual.) I would encourage everyone to come along and take the opportunity to see how the teachers plan for the year ahead and get hands on experience of the Northern Ireland Curriculum as it is presented to your children.

Details of the evening are as follows:

7.15 pm           Teacher Presentations in Classrooms                      P1, P2
7.40 pm           Teacher Presentations in Classrooms                      P3, P4
8.00 pm           Teacher Presentations in Classrooms                      P5, P6, P7
7.30 pm           Educational Welfare - Information for All                P5, P6, P7
8.00 pm           Educational Welfare - Information for All                P1, P2, P3, P4

Given that families have children in various year groups, we have staggered presentations to try and accommodate as many people as possible. It may also be useful for parents to split up on the night if you have a number of teachers to visit. Hospitality/refreshments will be served throughout the evening in the dining hall.

We look forward to your attendance on the night

The Curriculum has been evolving rapidly over the last few years and Holy Family Primary School has been at the forefront of this evolving process. Increasingly, the main areas of focus within the revised curriculum have been skills, personal capabilities and learning rather than teaching. We are very committed to unlocking and developing every child to help them realise their full potential.

With this in mind, teachers plan their work collaboratively. They discuss and negotiate clear learning intentions with the children and together they map out realistic success criteria for the learning.

This helps to ensure that our children develop a range of skills for later life. Thus they will evolve to be literate, numerate, ICT capable problem solvers. They will be able to manage information, work with others and develop into creative independent learners.

At Holy Family Primary School we are very committed to the revised curriculum. We believe our children are developing as individuals, as future contributors to society and the world around us. All this of course, is delivered within a Christian caring environment.
