HOLY FAMILY NURSERY UNIT NEWSLETTER

September 2009
Welcome to our Nursery!
Dear Parents

We welcome you and your children to Holy Family Nursery Unit.  This is the first of our newsletters for this school year, which are designed to keep you up to date with what is happening in the Nursery environment.

Settling In
Our main focus in September is to help the children to feel comfortable and secure in their Nursery and for children and staff to get to know each other.  The children are already settling in very well, are becoming familiar with the routines, and are learning lots about working together happily.

The Curriculum
Each month we will keep you informed  of the themes or topics we have chosen.  There will be further information on the focus of learning in each curriculum area posted on the parent’s notice board in the Nursery hallway.  During September and October we will be helping the children to get to know their Nursery environment, where things are kept, and how to use the various areas in the nursery as independently as possible

Part of our daily routine is to sit together for talking and listening activities.  The children have been enjoying taking part in some action rhymes and songs and we are beginning to focus on some traditional nursery rhymes.  Attached is some information on the importance of rhyme which you may find of interest, as well as a copy of some of the rhymes we are saying together in class. We also have a ‘Nursery Rhyme Booklet’, which will be available from the Nursery hallway.

Uniform
Nursery Uniform is available at Select Kidz. Uniform is not compulsory but we have found it to be popular with most families. Please let me know if you have any queries

Nursery Fund

Thank you for the contributions of £15 for this term for the Nursery Fund. We would be grateful to have all contributions as soon as possible.  Thank you.
This Fund allows us to provide the children with a variety of healthy foods for snack and also to maintain a supply of materials and ingredients for cooking with the children,  making play dough and providing for seasonal treats. The Fund may also be used  to subsidise the cost of educational visits and visitors to the nursery.

Information Booklet
Please refer to your Nursery Information Booklet regarding any aspect of the Nursery day or curriculum.  Please ask if you need an extra copy.  If you have any concerns or queries, please feel free to speak to me at the beginning or the end of the Nursery day.

We hope you and your children enjoy the year at Holy Family Nursery Unit and I look forward to meeting you all in due course.
